EFAA - SAFA conference Delhi 2 and 3 November 2011
 EFAA and SAFA (South Asian Federation of Accountants – www.esafa.org) held a conference meeting in Delhi on November 2 and 3 (see the attached programme) aiming to discuss ongoing items regarding accounting and auditing for SMPs for SMEs as well as opportunities for networking between practitioners of the two Regions in order to promote the growth of international businesses.
 EFAA and SAFA also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (put the photo with Geoff and Raman showing it and the link to the MoU).
Speakers from both sides highlighted the current challenges that the accounting profession is facing with regard to implementation of auditing and accounting standards.
In his keynote address EFAA CEO Federico Diomeda concentrated upon the vital importance of change management within the accounting profession by provision of more advisory services in order to mitigate the effects of lighter compliance regulation for SMEs. Put a photo
EFAA’s President Geoff Britton presented an overview of SMP best practice within the UK. It came as little surprise that SMPs in many jurisdictions shared similar concerns regarding developments in the profession which had to be accommodated at approximately the same time in countries adopting international standards.  The SAFA speakers presented various topics which appeared to confirm that there is little difference between Europe and South Asia in the best way forward for SMPs for SMEs. Put some photos
The event therefore demonstrated that distance or diverse cultures provide no issue for the profession This basic tenet underpins in no insubstantial way the fundamental objectives of the signed MoU between EFAA and SAFA
